Social Skills Groups for Children ages pre-K to 18
Social Skills are key to communication and human interaction. Children with social skills difficulties often lack a variety of language and communication abilities which can lead to problems making friends, controlling behaviors, and achieving academically.
At Pompton Speech Plus, we provide research-based intervention to improve social skills. We realize that for children with social language difficulties, social skills are not "picked up" over time. Rather, social skills must be systematically addressed by teaching discrete steps and practicing in a variety of situations with a variety of people. Our social skills programs utilize:
Video modeling
Inclusion of typical peers
Visual cues
Role-play and naturally occurring practice opportunities
Modeling of appropriate pro-social behaviors
Social Stories
Weekly suggestions for home carryover activities
Social cognitive methods
Written summary reports
The interactions of the therapists, parents, and child are an integral part of our social skills intervention. We maintain a strong commitment to including families in the therapeutic process and encourage ongoing communication through weekly discussions and parent seminars. As co-directors we possess over 30 years of combined clinical experience. We will facilitate, coordinate, and advocate for a child's speech/language therapy program with physicians, teachers, and other support professionals.
Our social skill and language therapy programs are distinct to each child: as a child develops and adapts, so do our interventions. We emphasize the child's individual differences and the effect those differences have on how the child relates, communicates, and learns. We embrace our students’ unique learning styles, emphasizing their strengths and teaching them to correct or compensate for their weaknesses.
We invite you to explore our therapy services, meet our exceptional staff and consultants, and discover how we can be of service to you and your child.
